Lucy Grant (24), born and bred in Peebles in the Scottish Borders, but now based in Manchester with the rest of the Great Britain sprint cycling team, has signed her first professional sponsorship deal with Scottish personal injury firm, Road Traffic Accident Law Scotland LLP, who provide specialist personal injury legal services for vulnerable road users (cyclists and pedestrians) as Cycle Law Scotland and Pedestrian Law Scotland.
The firm which has offices in Peebles, Edinburgh and Aberdeen has watched Lucy’s cycling career develop over many years, initially as a cross country mountain biker at club, national, international and then World Cup Competition level before moving across to the track following a mountain bike injury in 2016. The injury forced Lucy to take some time out and it was during this time that she discovered track sprint. Following some testing with Scottish Cycling at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome in Glasgow, it was clear from her times that she had great potential in this discipline. Lucy committed herself to becoming a full-time professional athlete at the end of 2018 and has been getting faster and improving her personal bests ever since.
A third place in the Team Sprint and another third in the 500m TT at the British national Track Championships in 2019 were good enough to get her selected to join the Great Britain cycling team. Earlier this year Lucy achieved a 2nd in the team sprint at the British National Track Championships before Covid-19 put paid to any further racing.
Road Traffic Accident Law (Scotland) Partner, Jodi Gordon who heads up Cycle Law Scotland said, “We are delighted to be able to support Lucy and help her achieve her dreams and goals as a professional cyclist. We know how hard she works both on and off the track and it is this determination and work ethic which impressed us.
“She will be a great ambassador for us supporting a number of our campaigns aimed at improving road safety for cyclists including our Road Share campaign for Presumed Liability and also our #LightUp campaign.
"We are already involved with the Borders Belles on Bikes Group which Brenda Mitchell, Senior Partner and Cycle Law Scotland founder, set up, plus I am a British Cycling Breeze programme champion.
Collectively, we are keen to encourage more women to get into cycling whether that be just starting out or at the more competitive end of cycling. We believe Lucy can supplement and enhance the work we already do through Belles on Bikes and Breeze.”
Lucy said,
"The support from RTALS will be a massive help in covering the costs I have for equipment and also my daily travelling to and from training. I am really excited to be supported by RTALS and I welcome this opportunity to work with an awesome company who truly put their clients at the centre of everything they do."
