Work Experience for young students

Calum_sm

This summer we were delighted to offer work experience to Calum and Ellie at RTA Law LLP.

They both went to school locally in Peebles and approached the firm looking for work experience during their summer holidays. As a small niche personal injury firm specialising in cycling and motorcycling incidents, we welcomed the opportunity to share our knowledge and offer hands-on work experience to them both.

Calum is still a student at Peebles High School and about to start studying for his Highers. He’s interested in pursuing a career in law and wanted to learn more about what this might look like having no prior experience. He completed a week of experience in July and during this time he worked closely with the Solicitors gaining an insight into Personal Injury Law.

Calum reflected on his week with us saying:-

“This experience has helped me decide whether I want to do law in the future. It has shown me a side of law that’s  really intriguing as cases can be completely different from each other. It has also been great to spend time in a pleasant working environment with kind people who were always happy to give me help if I needed it.”

Ellie contacted RTA Law LLP having just completed her first year studying Law at The University of Dundee. She wanted to gain experience working in a law firm for the summer. She joined us from June until August and during this time she shadowed Solicitors in Court hearings and assisted with live cases.

Ellie shared her thoughts about how she found her summer placement with us-

“Having not studied any aspect of Personal Injury law at University, I wasn’t sure what to expect when starting my work experience with RTA Law in June 2023. Two months later I am now returning to university with a new set of skills and level of understanding of this aspect of law that I simply would not have had without my time working here. It has been a pleasure to meet so many wonderful and hard-working people. Being younger and much less experienced than the rest of the team, they were all willing to lend a helping hand and guide me in the right direction. They are an amazingly friendly group of professionals.”

We were delighted that both Calum and Ellie enjoyed their summer placements with us.

We're passionate about helping vulnerable road users who are involved in road traffic incidents, and we were able to offer an insight into this area of law.

We feel that it's important to be able to provide experience to students who are considering careers in law and give them a small taste of what goes on on a daily basis. We hope that they can use the knowledge and the experience they have gained with us and take it forward with them in their future careers.

We wish Calum and Ellie all the best.
